Botticelli. The Birth of Venus (detail of Venus' right eye)

The image above is the right eye of Botticelli's Venus, a mere inch or two of canvas. It's taken from the Google Art Project, an amazing site where you can zoom into a hundred or so major masterpieces and see exquisite detail. If you haven't seen how it works, you'll be stunned. Thanks to H. Niyazi who writes Three Pipe Problem, an excellent blog, I came across it a few weeks ago and have been fascinated ever since. Take a look.
