Picasso’s Visual Illusions In the Sculptor’s Studio
Picasso, In the Sculptor's Studio 31.10.63 Etching
Some of Picasso's late etchings look as though they may have been tossed off without much thought. It's only when you can begin to study them closely that you realize how brilliant he was. In this print called In the Sculptor's Studio there are at least three visual illusions in which one feature of the human figure becomes another completely different one. It's not just play because the meaning of the print is embedded in these illusions. That means, since they have probably never been seen by Picasso experts, that the meaning of this image has never been discussed. Take a look yourself. If you're intrigued and cannot find them, you can discover the illusions in the newly-published entry, Picasso's In the Sculptor's Studio (1963).
