What Graphic Designers Know
Left: Poster for Premonition, starring Sandra Bullock
Right: Cezanne, Large Bathers
Artists put meaning in their work by using methods that most viewers never see. Indeed that's what this website's about. Graphic illustrators put meaning in their work too. What few know though, perhaps even themselves, is that they often use the same methods as great artists, just more obviously and with different meaning. Take a look at the poster for the 2007 movie, Premonition, starring Sandra Bullock. It uses the trees to create her face in a way remarkably similar to how Cézanne created the face of his muse in the center of his Large Bathers, now in Philadelphia.
If you can't see the girl's face on the right, go to Cézanne's Large Bathers (1906).
