Window of a Roman Art Gallery
Window of an Art Gallery in Rome, January 2010
I have been arguing for years that the concept every painter paints himself is alive and well in the art world, even if art scholars are unaware of it. So I was particularly delighted when I came across this notice posted on the window of an art gallery in Rome in January 2010. It was an invitation to a Gallery Opening and was possibly drawn by the artist herself, Laura Scarpa. On it, the artist has drawn her hand drawing her own hand with the title in Italian as close to every painter paints himself as you can get: “Disegnamo sempre noi stessi” or, in English, “We always draw ourselves”.
